ADI Part 2

ADI part 2 is a practical test comprised of three parts; eyesight, safety questions and driving technique. The test lasts about 1 hour and you will need to pass all parts of the test in one go or you will have to take the whole test again.

The eyesight test is fairly straightforward; you will need to be able to read in good daylight with the aid of glasses or contact lenses if worn, a motor vehicle registration plate containing letters and figures: 79 millimetres in height and 50 millimetres wide at a distance of 26.5 metres or 79 millimetres in height and 57 millimetres wide at a distance of 27.5 metres.

During the safety test your examiner will ask you to describe how to perform a check on the condition and safety of three components of your vehicle and demonstrate an actual check on the condition of a further two components. The test of driving ability is an advance driving test in which you must display a high level of competence. The examiner will be testing your ability to handle the controls, use correct road procedure, anticipate the actions of other road users, judge distances and speeds soundly and consider the convenience and safety of other road users. The routes used for the test will include roads which may carry heavy and/or fast moving traffic; they will also cover a range of road manoeuvres and traffic conditions, including urban and rural conditions.
