No previous experience required to become a driving instructor
Most people think that to become a driving instructor you will need lots of qualifications this is not true. There is no previous experience required at all.
You do not need any previous qualifications in order to become a Driving Instructor. All you need is the following:
- To have held a full UK car driving licence for at least 4 years out of the last 6 years (you must not have been disqualified from driving during the last 4 years)
- To be a “fit and proper” person, in the opinion of the DSA
- The ability to read a vehicle number plate from at least 90 feet/27.5 metres
- You must have a criminal record and motoring record check carried out.
- You are required to pass the Approved Driving Instructors examination. This is made up of one theory exam and two practical exams.
- To ensure you successfully pass all 3 parts of the Approved Driving Instructors examination, it is important to take part in the Approved Driving Instructor Training Course.
